Imprisonment for widespread illicit cigarette manufacturing in Brandenburg

The prosecution alleges that the accused created cigarettes unlawfully in a location called a "tax warehouse" and then sold them on the black market without the necessary tax stamps. They claim that the state incurred a loss of 27 million euros due to this illegal activity.

In June 2021, the alleged culprit was apprehended during a check at the main customs office. Authorities discovered an unregistered cigarette factory within the tax warehouse, along with over twelve million cigarettes, according to the prosecutor's office.

During another inventory in January 2023, an additional seven and a half million cigarettes were discovered at the warehouse. The defendant was subsequently charged with tax evasion in a court hearing before the Cottbus District Court.
