Impersonating a police officer: Theft in highway parking lots
Criminals have pretended to be police officers in highway parking lots in Lower Franconia and then robbed drivers. According to a police spokesman on Wednesday, a previously unknown person posed as a police officer in a parking lot on the A3 near Esselbach (Main-Spessart district) on Wednesday night and lured a driver out of his vehicle. During this time, a second perpetrator stole a rucksack from the car.
According to the police, there were two further incidents in the course of the night in parking lots on the A3, some of which are said to have involved even more people. In all cases, the perpetrators were able to flee before the victims noticed the theft. In this way, they reportedly stole around 3000 euros in cash and several documents.
The undercover tactics used by these criminals are a concerning development in highway crime, with suspects posing as police officers to commit theft. Such incidents, including the one in the A3's underside, are becoming increasingly common in Lower Franconia.
