An illegal production of shisha tobacco has been discovered by customs in the district of Hameln. During a routine inspection of an unspecified company on Friday, officials found 450 kilograms of smoking tobacco, 350 kilograms of water pipe tobacco and over 5,600 liters of liquid for e-cigarettes, all of which were untaxed, customs officials announced on Monday. The tax loss amounted to almost one million euros.

At the beginning of the operation, the customs officers encountered a man who initially claimed to be an employee, but later turned out to be the boss of the company. According to the information provided, the man led the officers quickly around the company premises and did not show them all the rooms. The officers later discovered various buckets and canisters containing flavorings and molasses, which are used for the production of water pipe tobacco, among other things.
