A well-known pop singer makes headlines. - Ikke Hüftgold opposes the ban on "L'amour toujours"
Musician Matthias Distel, known as Huftgold, doesn't support banning Gigi D'Agostino's hit "L'amour toujours" because of racist incidents linked to it. "The ones using the song to yell racist slogans should be addressed by the law, not the song," the 47-year-old shared with Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. "But prohibiting this music is not the answer. Neither should DJs get penalized for playing what some may consider a 'Nazi song'. This isn't a Nazi song!"
A video from a couple of months ago got many people upset. It showed a bunch of young partygoers on Sylt island shouting racial slurs "Take the foreigners out" and "Germany belongs to the Germans" to this specific tune. Other reports have surfaced recently, indicating that this particular song won't be played at some folk festivals.
Huftgold, born Matthias Distel, made waves back in 2020, when he critiqued a different piece of music - "Layla" by DJ Robin & Schuerze. This tune faced backlash for its sexist lyrics, resulting in bans from various places. However, it eventually earned the title of the summer hit in 2022. At the time, Huftgold warned us about the dangers of censorship.
About "L'Amour toujours", he now has a definite stance: "It's ultimately the Nazis, wanna-be Nazis, or idiots picking up on this. If we keep going this way, the next song on the chopping block will most likely be one by Roland Kaiser, Ikke Huftgold, or Udo Lindenberg."
