IG Metall district manager Zitzelsberger resigns from office

The head of IG Metall in Baden-Württemberg, Roman Zitzelsberger, is quitting. He made the announcement on Thursday at the meeting of the Grand Collective Bargaining Commission in Pforzheim. After careful consideration, Zitzelsberger has decided to open a new chapter, IG Metall also announced.

Zitzelsberger has been district manager in the south-west since 2013. Most recently, he negotiated the pilot agreement in the metal and electrical industry and was under discussion as the national head of the powerful industrial union. However, Zitzelsberger turned this down in the spring, citing health reasons.

A lot has happened since then and he has become very aware of the great value of health, said Zitzelsberger according to the press release. Today, he has the strength back to weather even the toughest storms. After taking some time out, he now wants to start something completely new.

Zitzelsberger intends to hand over the office by March 31. The search for a successor will therefore begin immediately.

Zitzelsberger's decision to resign as district manager of IG Metall in Baden-Württemberg might have been influenced by his experiences in the metal industry, leading negotiations with trade unions. Due to health reasons, he declined the opportunity to lead IG Metall nationally, but now, with his personal details indicating improved health, he is seeking a fresh start outside of the trade union environment in the metal industry.
