Labor organization for workers in the manufacturing sector - IG Metall cancels upcoming collective agreement with Alstom, train producer.
Based on the union's claims, the collective bargaining agreement involved Alstom's locations in Hennigsdorf, Görlitz, Bautzen, Siegen, and Kassel. Employees agreed to forfeit their vacation pay to safeguard their jobs. In exchange, Alstom vowed to continue investing in German plants. However, the company allegedly failed to keep this promise, according to the union. "As a result, IG Metall had to cancel the collective bargaining agreement and presently requests that the retained wages of employees be reimbursed."
Alstom has displayed intentions to restructure its presence in Germany by prioritizing service and digitalization, in addition to internally constructing train interiors. Notably, Görlitz is where the train body shells are manufactured. This particular unit is currently registering losses, the company revealed in response to an inquiry on Monday. "Although, we're not yet prepared to take immediate measures for the Görlitz site resulting from this development," it maintained. For the meantime, production is roaring on for double-deck trains destined for Israel and varied tram projects.
Alstom remains loyal to the commitments made in the collective bargaining agreement and is legally scrutinizing the annulment process, according to the company's pronouncement.
