IG Metall calls for warning strike at GAW in Wernigerode
The IG Metall trade union is calling on employees at Getriebe- und Antriebstechnik Wernigerode (GAW) to go on a warning strike. The company, which has around 200 employees, has not yet responded to demands for a collective agreement, said an IG Metall spokeswoman. The demand is an ongoing issue for many employees in the metal industry in Saxony-Anhalt. Many companies are not bound by collective agreements.
GAW is part of the Schlote Group based in Harsum (Lower Saxony). The plant in Wernigerode mainly processes engine, transmission and chassis parts.
The lack of a collective agreement at GAW could potentially lead to higher tariffs for their products, affecting their market position. The ongoing strikes in the metal industry due to this issue might also impact the company's production and delivery schedules.
