IG Metall calls for greater relief on electricity prices
Several thousand employees from the metal industry protested in the south-west on Friday for higher electricity price relief in the energy-intensive industry. District manager Roman Zitzelsberger said: "In order to prevent job cuts and site closures in the long term, we urgently need a bridge electricity price." The coalition's electricity price package is not enough. Among other things, it provides for a significant reduction in the electricity tax for the manufacturing industry as well as an expansion of the existing electricity price compensation for companies that are particularly affected by high electricity prices.
Around 300 employees took part in a rally in Kehl. The nationwide day of action organized by several trade unions was entitled "Bridge electricity price now!". Zitzelsberger said that politicians must make adjustments here. "Because we cannot stand by and watch entire branches of industry and jobs being lost due to rising costs in Germany." Financing must not be allowed to fail due to the debt brake.
The metal industry's Protest in the south-west was focused on securing a lower electricity price, recognizing its energy-intensive nature. The employees demanded a more substantial relief beyond the coalition's electricity price package, arguing that it falls short of preventing job losses and site closures.
