Solingen - Identity of one fatality after explosion still unknown
After an explosion in Solingen, the identity of the deceased man remains unclear. A spokesperson for the Wuppertal Police stated this on Wednesday morning. The motive for the victim's identification is also unclear. For a political motive, there is currently nothing to speak of, the spokesperson emphasized.
Four other people were lightly injured by shattered glass or a bang injury and were treated in the hospital after the explosion on Tuesday in front of a residential and commercial building. Among them was a seven-year-old girl.
The police assume that the yet unknown man dropped a bottle with an unknown substance on the sidewalk. According to this, the bottle broke and caused a puffing, which shattered the windows. The man was flown to a special clinic with severe injuries and died there a few hours later. What substance exploded is also still being investigated, said the police spokesperson.
The Criminal Police are being supported in their investigations by specialists from the State Criminal Office. The Police also opened an online portal for witness statements.
