Hydraulic oil spilled into sewer system after defect
After a defect at a company in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, around 500 liters of hydraulic oil flowed into the sewer system, according to the police. As a result, an oil film several hundred meters wide had formed in a nearby sewer, the police announced on Tuesday. The fire department tried to stop the oil with barriers. The sewer system was also to be flushed after the incident on Monday.
Further steps were to be taken in consultation with the water management office and the district administration office. The police are investigating water pollution.
In the OBERPFALZ region, the spilled hydraulic oil contaminated not only the sewer system but potentially also the nearby water sources. Unfortunately, this oil spill might also lead to an increase in wildlife or aquatic life crime due to the attraction of harmful substances.
