Shortly after the start of summer holidays, the Ostsachsen Crafts registered a plus in newly signed apprenticeship contracts. The Handwerkskammer Dresden reported that 1,104 apprenticeship contracts had already been signed a few months before the beginning of the new training year. This is an increase of 2.7 percent compared to the previous year. By autumn, 251 women and 853 men want to learn one of the over 80 craft professions in Ostsachsen.

This intermediate balance is positive, said Manuela Salewski, deputy managing director of the Handwerkskammer Dresden. "Craft businesses in the region want to train and are looking for motivated young people." Craft is the first address when it comes to sustainability, climate protection, and energy transition. "Young people are not only offered good future prospects in crafts but can also actively contribute to climate protection."

Currently, there are approximately 490 free apprenticeship positions and 300 practical training places available at the Handwerkskammer, according to the statement. Crafts in Germany train in 130 professions - about 80 of which can be learned in Ostsachsen.
