Hurricane Ciaran in NRW: Flights canceled and diverted
The hurricane Ciaran has also affected flight operations in North Rhine-Westphalia. At the largest airport in Düsseldorf, 10 flights were canceled on Thursday, 14 were diverted to other airports and 3 flights were postponed until Friday, the airport announced on request.
One flight from Zurich to Düsseldorf was among the arrivals that were canceled due to the weather. Due to strong crosswinds, the crew had to abort the landing maneuver and decided to fly back to Zurich.
According to the Swiss online medium "20 Minuten", citing "Flightradar 24", the pilots of the aircraft had attempted to land in Düsseldorf four times before deciding to turn back after more than an hour.
The unpredictable weather conditions caused by Hurricane Ciaran led to air traffic disruptions, resulting in the cancellation of some flights. Consequently, air traffic control had to divert several planes to other airports to ensure safety.
