Hungarian Prime Minister Orban leans on Trump for peace endeavors in Ukraine crisis.

It's undeniable that Russia's actions towards Ukraine are "totally intolerable" and breached the core values of international relations. However, it's not about the concerns of Ukraine or Russia for the Hungarian prime minister, what he desires most is for the conflict to end and establish a truce. In the long run, it's about constructing a fresh European security structure where everyone can coexist peacefully.

The question of whether Ukraine should cede territory as Russia demands remains unanswered. According to Orban, we don't really know how Russia would react if the U.S. administration said, "Halt, we'll stop it tomorrow and then negotiate."

Orban is convinced that "this war wouldn't exist if Angela Merkel were still Chancellor." He believes she would've dealt with the Russian takeover of Crimea like she did – containing the dispute, rather than escalating it globally.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump described Orban as a "peacemaker." "He's never initiated a war," says the Hungarian leader. Europe needs politicians akin to Trump, "individuals who disrupt the system," Orban added.

With the motto "Make Europe great again," the Hungarian prime minister, who's been in office since 2010, is referring to Trump's election slogan as he prepares for EU presidency, which Hungary will assume on July 1. During Hungary's tenure, Orban intends to lobby for strengthening European competitiveness, addressing the migration crisis, and expanding EU influence towards the Western Balkans.

Hungary will step into the EU presidency on a rotating basis on July 1. Orban is generally regarded as Putin's closest ally within the EU. Lately, Hungary has obstructed billion-dollar military aid for Ukraine at the EU level.
