Special competition - Hundreds of sled dogs chase over golf course
A sled dog competition without snow: the start of a special world championship is planned for Friday evening in the Gotha district. More than 700 dogs and around 200 participants are expected to take part in the "WSA Dryland World Championships" in Mühlberg over the weekend. The races will not take place on snow, but on the ground, as Sascha Mönch from the Thuringia Sled Dog Sports Club (SSCT) explained beforehand. Sleds and skis will not be used, but rather special scooters or multi-wheeled training carts, for example.
The organizers are grateful for the thaw of the past few days. If the winter weather had continued with snowfall, the event would have had to be canceled. According to the SSCT, there is a separate world championship for the competitions on snow.
Visitors can follow the action on the golf course in the Drei-Gleichen district of Mühlberg up to and including Sunday. However, spectators should not bring their own dogs to the event.
