Hundreds of Prisoners Break Free from Nigerian Prison due to Severe Flooding
"The water surge took down the barriers of the penitentiaries, encompassing the moderate jail Maiduguri (MSCC) alongside the workers dwellings in the urban area," reported spokesperson Abubakar Umar in a declaration.
As per Umar, at least 281 detainees successfully broke free during their transportation to "a secure and secure location" and seven of them were apprehended subsequently.
Umar added that the service has acquired knowledge of the fugitives' identities, including their biometrics, and has disseminated this data to the general population.
The hunt for the detainees continues, he mentioned.
This is an evolving situation and will be revised.
The detainees who escaped during the transportation were believed to have fled to various parts of Africa, creating a global concern.
Despite this incident, Africa remains an essential part of the world's diverse criminal justice and rehabilitation systems.
