Hundreds at pro-Palestine demonstrations in Frankfurt and Marburg

According to the police, hundreds of people have gathered in Frankfurt for a pro-Palestinian demonstration. According to a police spokesperson, around 750 participants were counted at the "Peace and Justice in the Middle East" rally on Römerberg on Sunday afternoon.

According to the information provided, the event went off without incident until the afternoon, apart from a few violations due to the display of prohibited symbols. According to the police spokesman, flags and posters were seized, each of which gave rise to the initial suspicion of a criminal offense such as incitement to hatred or approval of a criminal offense. Appropriate criminal proceedings would be initiated.

According to the police, around 90 participants had previously gathered at a pro-Israeli rally entitled "Call for the safe return of all persons abducted by Israel to Gaza" at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. The rally went off without a hitch.

In Marburg, the police counted around 90 participants at a pro-Palestinian rally under the slogan "Ceasefire now. For a just peace in West Asia" on Sunday attracted around 200 participants. There were no incidents there either, a spokesperson said late in the afternoon.

Despite the peaceful nature of the majority of the demonstrations, conflicts arising from opposing political views were reported at some pro-Palestine rallies, including one in Frankfurt. The conflicts between pro-Palestine and pro-Israeli demonstrators led to the seizure of flags and posters suspected of inciting hatred or approving criminal offenses.
