The prestigious State Award - Human rights advocate and author receives recognition
This year, award-winning journalist and human rights campaigner Düzen Tekkal, and renowned author Heinrich Detering, will be honored with the Lower Saxony State Prize. The announcement was made by a government representative in Hanover on Tuesday. Over 300 attendees were expected at the award ceremony. Each winner received half of the prize's total of 35,000 euros.
Since 1978, the Lower Saxony State Prize has been given to significant individuals who have excelled in their roles in any field, including cultural, social, scientific, environmental, or business endeavors for the state. Past recipients include the comedian Otto Waalkes, the pianist Igor Levit, and singer-songwriter Heinz Rudolf Kunze.
