Huge areas in India and Bangladesh under water - at least six dead

"The villages, streets, and most houses are flooded," said Syhet Administration Chief Abu Ahmed Siddique to news agency AFP. Hundreds of emergency shelters have been set up.

The Indian Meteorological Department warned of further landslides in Assam and adjacent states. Numerous roads in Assam were damaged, and the air force had to rescue 13 fishermen stranded on an island.

Large parts of the Kaziranga National Park, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, were inundated. Hundreds of animals were trying to cross a road leading through the park to reach higher ground, according to park spokesperson Arun Vignesh, speaking to AFP. The park rangers are on high alert.

Monsoon rainfall causes annual flooding and destruction in Southeast Asia. According to researchers, human-induced climate change leads to stronger and more unpredictable monsoon rains.

  5. The recent landslides in Assam have reportedly led to multiple casualties; as of now, the death toll stands at a massive figure, which is still being calculated by the authorities in Bangladesh and India.
  6. The government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with India's Northeastern states, is actively coordinating to provide essential aid, such as water, food, and medical supplies, to the affected areas, as the situation continues to evolve.
