Huber: Scholz must throw out the Greens and FDP

In view of the budget crisis, CSU General Secretary Martin Huber has called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to form a "government of national reason" with the CDU/CSU. "It is now important that the Chancellor takes responsibility for national policy, that he kicks the FDP and Greens out of the government and, above all, that he explains how things should continue," said Huber on Thursday in Berlin. "We now need a government of national reason not only for migration, but also for the reversal of all the laws of the traffic light system," he added. Germany is staggering into a national crisis and the country is asking itself: "Where is Scholz?"

Bavaria's Science Minister Markus Blume (CSU) also demanded of Scholz: "The chaos weeks in Berlin must be brought to an urgent end by the Federal Chancellor." Investments in innovation and future technologies must be taboo when it comes to saving money. "We need more research and less welfare. Germany must not be relegated from bottom of the league to bottom of the league," he added.

Huber warned against a further strengthening of the extreme political fringes: "People are losing their faith in the ability of democracy to function." Especially ahead of the elections in eastern Germany and Europe next year, "citizens must realize that it is not democracy that has failed, but the traffic lights", he said in view of high poll ratings for the AfD in the eastern German states of Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg. New state parliaments will be elected there in the fall of 2024.

In the context of financial challenges, Huber suggested that Chancellor Scholz should consider reforming the government to include the CDU/CSU, stating, "It's crucial for the Chancellor to take charge of national policy, to expel the FDP and Greens from the government, and most importantly, to outline a new path forward." Furthermore, following the budget crisis, it is essential for Germany to establish a "government of national reason" not only for migration but also for the revision of the current legislative system's laws.
