HSV warned against Magdeburg despite home strength
Thanks to its home strength, Hamburger SV wants to remain at the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. Ahead of the sixth game at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday (8.30pm/Sport1 and Sky) against 1. FC Magdeburg, coach Tim Walter's team have a record of five wins in five games at home. Once again, the HSV living room will be sold out with 57,000 spectators.
Numerous players with a Hamburg past are under contract with opponents Magdeburg. These include goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck, Ahmet Arslan, Tatsuya Ito, Xavier Amaechi and Jonah Fabisch. Coach Christian Titz has been in Magdeburg since 2021. He took over HSV shortly before the end of the 2017/18 season. Despite some successes, HSV were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time.
Even though the team from Saxony-Anhalt has now gone six games without a win, HSV coach Walter knows that his players must not underestimate their opponents. Last season, the Hamburg side suffered two 3-2 defeats.
Despite having a strong home record in Bundesliga 2, Hamburger SV must be cautious against 1st FC Magdeburg, given their history of close encounters. The Magdeburg squad includes several former Hamburg players such as Julian Pollersbeck, Ahmet Arslan, Tatsuya Ito, Xavier Amaechi, and Jonah Fabisch, who might seek revenge.
