HSV scramble to victory over Eintracht Braunschweig

Hamburger SV consolidated second place in the Bundesliga thanks to a double over Eintracht Braunschweig and increased the Lower Saxony's relegation worries in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, coach Tim Walter's team found it more difficult than expected to beat the second-last team in the table after the break in a 2:1 (2:0) win on Friday evening, but defended their home run of seven wins in seven games.

One week before the city duel against league leaders FC St. Pauli, Guilherme Ramos (25th minute) and former Braunschweig player Immanuel Pherai (26th) scored within 69 seconds of each other. Fabio Kaufmann (62) scored the equalizer. Bad luck for him and the visitors: His supposed equalizer in the 74th minute was disallowed for offside.

HSV caught up on points with FC St. Pauli, who play at Hansa Rostock on Saturday (13:00/Sky). Braunschweig, who are without points away from home, remain deep in the relegation battle.

In front of 55,879 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, the Hanseatic side dominated before the break. Following a short corner, Jean-Luc Dompé crossed into the penalty area, where Ramos headed home for a deserved lead. In the very next attack, Robert Glatzel fed the free-standing Pherai, who scored from the edge of the box with a powerful shot into the left corner.

After the changeover, HSV completely lost their rhythm and played too passively. Kaufmann brought Braunschweig back into the game with a powerful shot from just under 20 meters. But the visitors were no longer able to spring a surprise.

Despite the challenge, Hamburger SV continued their impressive form in Bundesliga 2, securing a narrow win against Eintracht Braunschweig, a team fighting relegation. Guilherme Ramos and former Eintracht player Immanuel Pherai scored quickfire goals before half-time, extending HSV's home win streak to eight games.
