Right on the brink of transfer period's conclusion, Hamburger SV has expanded its roster yet again. The second-tier football team has secured Marco Richter on loan from Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05, as per the Hanseatic squad's announcement. This decision stems from a number of injured and underperforming players in the offensive sector, with Bakery Jatta and Jean-Luc Dompé currently on the sidelines.

Yesterday's announcement of the new recruit follows closely after the disheartening news of defender Mario Vuskovic's doping ban, handed down by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This penalty includes a four-year suspension. In light of this, particularly in the central defense position, HSV is in dire need.

Richter, set to bolster the attack, didn't figure into Mainz coach Bo Henriksen's plans anymore. His contract with Mainz extends until June 30, 2027. The 26-year-old previously donned the jerseys of FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC. HSV's managing director, Stefan Kuntz, has a personal connection with Richter, having worked with him as part of the U21 team when they clinched the title of vice-European champions in 2019.

The following is added to Hamburg SV's roster due to the need in central defense, given Mario Vuskovic's doping ban and subsequent four-year suspension: Marco Richter, on loan from FSV Mainz 05.

This signing of Richter, who has experience with FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC, is a result of Stefan Kuntz's personal connection with the player, having worked together in the U21 team that became vice-European champions in 2019.
