Handball Bundesliga - HSV handball players lose narrowly in Gummersbach
Handball Bundesliga team HSV Hamburg has lost its second game in a row. After the home defeat against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen last weekend, they lost 23:24 (13:12) at VfL Gummersbach on Thursday. With nine goals, Casper Mortensen was the best scorer for the Hanseatic side, who remain 12:20 points adrift in eleventh place in the table.
In view of the shortage of personnel at the back, where the permanently injured Dani Baijens and Dominik Axmann were missing, HSVH coach Torsten Jansen had two left-handed players in Jacob Lassen and Zoran Ilic. The unfamiliar formation took some time to find its feet. After trailing 0:3 (5th minute) and 5:7 (15th minute), four Hamburg goals in a row gave the visitors a 9:7 lead (19th minute).
Hamburg defended this lead passionately. Gummersbach, who were without their regular playmaker, repeatedly reduced the deficit to one goal, but were initially unable to equalize. It was not until 21:21 (52') that the former champions tied the scores again and even went 22:21 (53') in front a little later.
Torsten Jansen brought on a seventh field player in the final minute, but a technical error prevented a possible draw.
