HSV Hamburg: Axmann out for the rest of the season
Handball Bundesliga club HSV Hamburg will have to do without its backcourt player Dominik Axmann for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old has torn a cruciate ligament in his left knee and will require surgery, as the club announced on Wednesday. Axmann was injured in an attacking action during Hamburg's defeat in the Bundesliga game at Füchse Berlin (31:37) on Sunday.
An examination at a hospital in Hamburg confirmed the severity of the injury. "For professional athletes, it is actually unavoidable to operate on a torn cruciate ligament in order to get the knee properly stable again and prepare it for the extreme strain," said team doctor Michael Hoffmann. He hopes "that Dominik will be back on the pitch during the first half of the new season".
Axmann has often had to deal with injuries during his career. Most recently, however, he was one of the key players in coach Torsten Jansen's team.
Despite the injury, HSV Hamburg will continue to compete in the Handball Bundesliga without Dominik Axmann, who was a vital member of their backcourt. Unfortunately, Axmann's tear in the cruciate ligament in his left knee requires surgery and will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the current season.
