2nd league - HSV gets desired player Elfadli and keeps Hadzikadunic

With a one-year delay, Hamburger SV has acquired their desired player Daniel Elfadli. The second-tier football club officially presented the Libyan national player as a new signing at the start of training. The 27-year-old comes from league rival 1. FC Magdeburg and is expected to strengthen the defensive midfield. He traveled with the team and coach Steffen Baumgart to the training camp in Schneverdingen on the day of the contract signing.

Not long after, the club announced that the loan of Dennis Hadzikadunic would be extended for another year. The 25-year-old joined HSV in 2023 and played in 27 mandatory matches last season. The Swedish-born Bosnian national player is still under contract with Russian Premier League club FK Rostov until 2026. Due to the Russian military conflict against Ukraine, according to a decision by FIFA, contracts of foreign players at Russian clubs can be suspended. Therefore, the extension of the loan was possible.

Last year, the Elfadli transfer failed due to a disagreement on the transfer fee.

New signing Elfadli brings at least second-tier experience. "Daniel has played more than 50 second-tier matches in the past two seasons and knows the league well, so he doesn't need a long adaptation period," said Professional Football Director Claus Costa. Last year, HSV tried to sign Elfadli but could not agree on a transfer fee with the other club. The defensive specialist still had a contract in Hamburg at the time, and HSV made no comments about the length of his contract during the transfer.

"I wished it was me last year, but we never let the contact go," said Elfadli. "And I'm so happy to be here at HSV now and able to get started right away."

  1. Despite the one-year delay, HSV's transfer activities extended to acquiring Daniel Elfadli from 1. FC Magdeburg in Bundesliga 2, aiming to bolster their defensive midfield.
  2. Born in Libya, Elfadli has now made his move to Hamburg, joining HSV after a successful stint with his previous club in Saxony-Anhalt.
  3. The transfer of Steffen Baumgart's new signing, Elfadli, was finalized as he traveled with the team to Schneverdingen for their training camp.
  4. The desired player, Elfadli, boasts experience in Bundesliga 2 and is expected to shorten the adaptation period due to his previous encounters in the league.
  5. As for HSV's loan extension, Dennis Hadzikadunic's 2-year tenure in the Bundesliga club was extended, despite contractual obligations with his Russian Premier League club, FK Rostov.
  6. Elfadli himself looked back at the failed transfer last year and expressed his satisfaction at finally securing a move to HSV in the current season, hoping to make a substantial impact in the soccer club.
