Soccer - HSV coach Walter before Nuremberg game: "It's not about me"
HSV coach Tim Walter, who has come under criticism, has put himself in the background ahead of the important last game of the year. "It's not about me, it's purely about HSV," said the coach of second-division soccer club Hamburger SV ahead of the game at 1 FC Nuremberg (Saturday, 1:00 pm/Sky). "We want three points and that's our mission for the weekend."
The 48-year-old has recently come under increasing criticism. HSV lost 2-1 to SC Paderborn last Saturday and had previously also failed to beat Hertha BSC on penalties in the last 16 of the DFB Cup. HSV are now only third in the table. Hamburg are already four points behind the top two.
It is unclear whether Walter will be sacked if HSV also fail to win in Nuremberg. What is certain, however, is that Walter is no longer as untouchable as he was in the summer, when sports director Jonas Boldt confirmed him as coach just a few minutes after the relegation play-off loss to VfB Stuttgart. The general meeting of HSV Fußball AG took place on Wednesday evening. According to the "Bild" newspaper, shareholder Klaus-Michael Kühne is now said to favor Walter's departure.
