Hrubesch likes everyone - and everyone likes Hrubesch

Nine points from three games - the German women's soccer team is feeling pretty good under Horst Hrubesch. The interim national coach also has words of praise - especially for one player.

National team - Hrubesch likes everyone - and everyone likes Hrubesch

After the important 3:0 victory in the Nations League match against Denmark, the national soccer players praised interim national coach Horst Hrubesch extensively. He considers everyone important, "simply everyone who is part of this team," said captain Alexandra Popp. "And that's what brings the team back together." In Rostock's Ostseestadion on Friday evening, 72-year-old Hrubesch celebrated his third win in his third game after stepping in as interim national coach again at the beginning of October. The DFB team therefore still has every chance of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris on its own.

Midfielder Sydney Lohmann emphasized that Hrubesch himself would probably say that he had no part in the game at all, "it's the girls, they can do it and he knows that." That is exactly what distinguishes the 1980 European champion, "that he stands up and simply gives us this belief, this feeling that we are unbeatable somewhere if we deliver our performance".

Hrubesch, who had already coached the German women's team on an interim basis in 2018, also had high praise for his team after the match: "We have a squad that is really good and can win these games." There is still a little room for improvement in a few positions, he said. "And yes - otherwise I just have to say that I really liked it."

The coach particularly praised the performance of Leverkusen's Elisa Senß, who came on as a second-half substitute and made her debut for the DFB team: "Senß played sensationally for me in the second half," said Hrubesch about the central midfielder. He had called the 26-year-old up to the national team for the first time last week. "She also has that character, that will. And she has the quality. She's technically good, she's quick and she also has an eye for the situation."
