Bundesliga 2 - Hrubesch ahead of Hamburg derby: "We have great fans"
Former HSV star striker Horst Hrubesch has praised the fans ahead of the explosive city derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV. "We have great fans, they sing for 90 minutes in the stadium. It's simply fun to play soccer with fans like that," said the interim coach of the German women's soccer team at a press conference on Thursday. "Those are the fans I favor. We have that in St. Pauli too," added the 72-year-old.
In every stadium, there are "a few exceptions that I simply don't call fans." These are people who don't belong there. "I simply believe that the mass of fans we have are actually great."
On Friday (20:30/ZDF), the DFB women's soccer team, coached by interim solution Hrubesch, will face Denmark in the Nations League duel in Rostock. Two hours earlier (18.30/Sky), the 110th edition of the city derby between second division leaders St. Pauli and runners-up HSV will take place in Hamburg' s Millerntor Stadium. The duel is classified as a high-risk match due to the decades-long rivalry. The police secure it with a large contingent.
