House of Representatives calls for more help for Long Covid patients
The Berlin House of Representatives is calling for more treatment and support services for people suffering from long-term symptoms as a result of a coronavirus infection or coronavirus vaccination. In a motion passed on Thursday, the Senate is specifically requested to present a concept for the establishment of so-called long/post-Covid/post-vac outpatient clinics throughout the city by March 2024. According to the parliament, a coordination office is to network the practices that are close to home and work on an interdisciplinary basis. At the same time, this is to set up a systematic collection of data on affected patients.
As there is currently no standardized therapy with the possibility of a cure and the clinical picture is individually different, an interdisciplinary approach and diagnosis is necessary, according to the resolution. Central contact points could make it easier for those affected to access therapies and drastically increase their chances of being offered a suitable treatment.
"The current lack of a billing model for statutory health insurance must not prevent adequate patient care," the parliamentary resolution continues. "Even if such an outpatient clinic is associated with costs for the state of Berlin, those affected must be adequately helped." The motion was tabled by the coalition parties CDU and SPD. The Greens, Left Party and AfD abstained from the vote.
The House of Representatives' request for long-Covid outpatient clinics extends to individuals affected by Corona or Covid-19 vaccinations, due to potential health issues related to diseases. The absence of a standardized treatment and the individual nature of symptoms emphasize the need for collaborative care and data collection.
