Arts and traditions of a society. - "House of Banksy" Debuts in Munich
Munich hosts another major Banksy display. Last Thursday, an event featuring approximately 200 creations by the esteemed British street artist was launched in the ex-rooms of Galeria Kaufhof. The masterminds behind "The Mystery of Banksy - A Genius Mind," which premiered worldwide in Munich in March 2021, garnering over 2.2 million spectators across 23 cities, are behind this new temporary event. They claim this show is the "most widely acclaimed and successful exhibition about the street art megastar globally."
This exhibition is touted as "the largest showcase of his artwork in the world." In attendance are graffiti, photographs, sculptures, multimedia installations, and prints on assorted materials, uniquely reproduced for this exhibition. Authentic originals aren't exhibited, as Virginia Jean, the curator, revealed last Thursday. In fact, this is the show's greatest asset.
According to a statement, "Approximately 80 percent of the displayed graffiti and motifs are now difficult or impossible to find in their original state. They were removed, demolished, defaced, ripped off walls, and sold for exorbitant prices. Most of it is now "no longer around"." The exhibition's aim is to "bring these works of human expression back."
