A residential and commercial building is on fire in Guben (Spree-Neisse District). The police arrested two suspects, aged 33 and 42, on suspicion of arson, as the police headquarters South announced. The building is likely not salvageable, according to a spokesperson for the Regional Control Center Lausitz. Previously, the control center had spoken of a burning warehouse.

The fire department was called out at night because two dumpsters and a used clothing container were burning, as reported. Two of the fires were quickly extinguished, but the flames from one dumpster spread to the building. A 65-year-old resident of the house managed to get herself safely out, according to the police.

The firefighters therefore opened the roof of the adjacent house to prevent the fire from spreading. Neighbors were advised by phone and loudspeaker announcements in the morning to close windows and doors to protect against smoke.

The two men under arrest for arson are believed to have targeted the business building, as suggested by local witnesses. This incident of Criminality has caused significant concern in the Brandenburg area, particularly in the District Spree-Neiße. The burning building is located near a well-known business complex in Guben. Despite the heroic efforts of the fire department, the iconic Business building may not be able to reopen due to the extensive damage caused by the Fire.
