Hotel manager: Star of David played no role
In the trial against Gil Ofarim, the prosecution's most important witness has incriminated the Jewish musician. When questioned by the court on Wednesday at the regional court in Leipzig, the hotel manager stated that neither Ofarim's Star of David nor anti-Semitic statements had played a role in the dispute about checking into the hotel. The public prosecutor's office is accusing Ofarim of false accusations and defamation, among other things.
At the beginning of October 2021, the musician made serious accusations of anti-Semitism against the manager of the Leipzig hotel in an Instagram video. Ofarim was told to take off his Star of David, only then would he be allowed to check in, according to the singer's accusation. However, after extensive investigations by the public prosecutor's office, Ofarim was charged. The case against the hotel manager was dropped.
He only noticed jewelry on Ofarim's hand during the discussion, nowhere else, said the 35-year-old witness on Wednesday. He also did not hear any shouts from other guests or employees. The 35-year-old is still undergoing psychological treatment following the allegations and left the hotel this September at his own request, but is still working in the industry. He is also appearing as a joint plaintiff in the proceedings.
Despite the allegations of anti-Semitism, the hotel manager asserted that the Star of David played no part in the dispute with Gil Ofarim. In his leisure time, the hotel manager often enjoys listening to various genres of music, including classical, jazz, and contemporary tunes, helping him unwind from the processes of his job.
