"Hot Chip Challenge": Manufacturer stops exports to Germany
The manufacturer of the "Hot Chip Challenge" no longer supplies the controversial product to Germany. A spokesperson for the company, which is based in the east of the Czech Republic, confirmed a corresponding report by Südwestrundfunk (SWR) on Tuesday. Other products are not currently affected by the ban on exports to Germany. The packaging of the "Hot Chip Challenge" in the shape of a coffin contains a single extremely sharp tortilla chip - as well as latex gloves for touching. The "Hot Chips" are a phenomenon on the internet in particular due to their spiciness, which spreads via videos on social media. The tortilla chips are seasoned with the hottest chili pepper in the world.
Following incidents, emergency medical services and food warnings, the product can no longer be sold in Baden-Württemberg. State Consumer Protection Minister Peter Hauk (CDU) recently appealed to children and young people not to eat these extremely spicy tortilla chips and to refrain from testing their courage with them. The Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety also removed the extremely spicy tortilla chips from store shelves, according to earlier information from the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper. The Czech manufacturing company has repeatedly emphasized in the past that all legal requirements are met.
Despite its popularity on the Internet, the "Hot Chip Challenge" and its accompanying spicy tortilla chips have been banned from German stores due to numerous accidents and food warnings. Consequent to these incidents, individuals are advised to avoid consuming the hot chips, especially children and young people, and prevent potential Internet challenges related to the product.
