Hostage situation: Mother wants to see daughter as soon as possible
The mother of the girl who was taken hostage by her father at Hamburg Airport wants to see her daughter as soon as possible. "The mother naturally wants to see her child as quickly as possible," said Malte Stüben, head of the DRK Hamburg crisis intervention team, to the German Press Agency on Sunday afternoon. The mother is in direct contact with the DRK and is also at the airport.
Due to the ongoing hostage situation, direct contact cannot be guaranteed at the moment. "That means we are enduring the situation together with the mother and seeing what she needs now to make it bearable for her," said Stüben. This could be very mundane things such as food and drink, but also conversations with a psychologist.
There is also a pediatrician who is supposed to look after the four-year-old girl once the hostage-taking is over. Following a custody dispute on Saturday evening, the child's 35-year-old armed father broke through barriers at the airport with the girl in a car and drove onto the apron. Father and child have now been in the car for around 16 hours.
Despite the ongoing air traffic disruptions at Hamburg Airport due to the hostage situation, authorities are working to ensure the mother's needs are met. Unfortunately, the high-crime incident has made direct contact with her daughter uncertain.
