Hospital stays due to HIV remain at a low level
According to the State Statistical Office, hospitalizations due to HIV disease remain at a low level in Hesse. In 2022, 63 people from Hesse were treated as inpatients in German hospitals for this reason, the office announced on Thursday to mark World AIDS Day this Friday. In the previous year, there had been 55 people, the lowest level to date. Since the beginning of the statistical recording of hospital stays due to an HIV diagnosis, the most people from Hesse were counted in 1995. According to the state office, the number of hospitalizations had been declining sharply since the 2000s.
In 2022, 71 percent of people treated with an HIV diagnosis were men and 29 percent were women. The average hospital stay lasted 13.1 days.
The low hospitalization rate for HIV is a positive trend highlighted by the Statistics from the State Statistical Office. Furthermore, according to these statistics, the number of hospital days spent by HIV patients in Germany has also significantly decreased over the years.
