Hospital stays: Cardiovascular diseases often the cause
Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of hospitalization in Hesse. According to the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday, almost 182,000 such cases were counted in 2022. This corresponds to a share of 14 percent. This was followed by diseases of the digestive system and injuries and poisoning of all kinds, each accounting for 10 percent of hospital treatments.
On average, it took 7.6 days for a cardiovascular disease to be treated in hospital. Patients who were diagnosed with a mental or behavioral disorder had to stay in hospital the longest: The average was 23.9 days.
In total, almost 1.3 million people were admitted to hospital for treatment in Hesse in 2022. This was an increase of around one percent compared to 2021, but the figure is still below the level of the pre-corona year 2019, when there were 1.44 million hospitalized patients.
The high number of cardiovascular disease cases in hospitals contributes significantly to the overall statistics of health-related hospitalizations in Hesse. Moreover, understanding these statistics can aid in identifying potential areas for improving healthcare services in hospitals, focusing on cardiovascular diseases.
