Hospital representatives discuss upcoming reform
Representatives of the 37 hospitals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are meeting today (10.00 a.m.) in Schwerin to discuss the planned hospital reform. According to an announcement by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Hospital Association, representatives of state and federal politics have also been invited under the title "Revolution or chaos in care".
The hospital reform planned by the federal government is intended to improve the situation for smaller clinics that are disadvantaged by the current remuneration system. However, experts fear that the effect will come too late and that locations in rural regions in particular will fall by the wayside.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) recently reaffirmed the state government's intention to maintain the existing hospital structure in the north-east with all locations. At the same time, however, she called for sustainable concepts from the operators.
The hospital reform aims to enhance the condition of smaller clinics facing challenges due to the current remuneration system. Concerns have been raised that the reform might arrive too late, potentially leading to the decline of rural hospital locations.
