Hospital reform: Hospital representatives concerned
According to the Managing Director of the Hospital Association in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (KGMV), the hospital reform planned by the federal government is heading towards an unsatisfactory outcome for the clinics. "At the moment, I think that what has started well is completely jeopardized in terms of the outcome," said Uwe Borchmann at the KGMV members' meeting in Schwerin on Tuesday.
He is concerned that the federal and state governments will ultimately no longer be concerned with the substantive result, but only with the agreement. According to Borchmann, the KGMV is in close contact with the state government and, with regard to the publication of the current reform plans, is calling for "the no vote in the Bundesrat to be upheld".
Ursula Claaßen, the responsible head of department at the Ministry of Health, also spoke of the need for improvements to the reform. In particular, the needs of sparsely populated regions were not being focused on enough. The KGMV also invited representatives from state and federal politics to discuss the reform under the title "Revolution or chaos in healthcare provision".
The ongoing hospital reform might negatively impact the quality of patient care in hospitals, as Uwe Borchmann expresses his concern that the focus shifts from the substantive result to mere agreement. Despite the call for improvements, especially in sparsely populated regions, there's a risk that the federal and state governments may neglect the health needs of hospitals.
