Homophobe attack before CSD in Berlin: Youths injured two men
According to Police reports, the victims were a 30- and a 45-year-old man. According to investigations, they were attacked by five unknown juveniles who "behaved incomprehensibly and charged at the two sitting men". They attempted unsuccessfully to steal the flag from them.
Subsequently, they assaulted these men. Witnesses intervened, causing the suspects to flee. One of the men was reportedly beaten by the officers, the other pushed to the ground and kicked. They were treated by paramedics on site. The State Protection of the Police is now investigating.
- The incident occurred during Berlin's Christopher Street Day celebrations, a time when young people from all over the world gather to celebrate diversity and equality.
- Someone who is prejudiced against people who are homosexual or perceived to be homosexual might view the CSD as a threat, but the event is meant to promote understanding and acceptance.
- The attack on the two men was unfortunate, as Berlin is known for its tolerance and welcoming atmosphere towards the LGBTQ+ community.
- Despite the incident, the police presence in the area during CSD is intended to ensure the safety of everyone, including young people, men, and women celebrating their identities.
- Listen closely for any suspicious footsteps or strange activities near Berlin Palace, as we must all be vigilant and support each other, especially during Pride events.
- In a city where Police and people work together to maintain peace, such an attack is a grim reminder of the prejudice that still exists in some parts of society.
