- Homicide trial commences following lethal frontal collision
A 30-year-old dude from Bad Pyrmont is currently facing trial for homicide at the Detmold Regional Court, after a lethal car incident that happened on Monday. He's being blamed for deliberately ramming his vehicle into an approaching car on a country road in Lübbecke, Lippe district, back in March. This resulted in the tragic death of a 54-year-old driver and significant injuries to the 30-year-old.
Looking into the accused's mobile phone, cops suspected he was attempting suicide by driving head-on into incoming traffic. The prosecution accused him of murder, arguing that the victim couldn't have predicted a car coming from the opposite direction deliberately and intentionally causing a collision.
At the commencement of the trial, the defendant asserted he was emotionally drained following a breakup with his partner and was heading to a meeting to reconcile when he suffered a panic attack and lost consciousness, as he had done in the past during similar situations. He claimed to have no recollection of the accident.
To shed light on the crash events, the jury will seek the assistance of an extra expert. The trial is predicted to wrap up in October.
During the trial, the defense argued that the accused's actions were not intentional, but rather a result of his emotional state after a breakup. Subsequently, the prosecution presented other instances where the accused had a history of experiencing panic attacks while driving.
