Accident - Homeless man trapped in trash compactor

A homeless man became trapped in a waste compactor in Frankfurt on Thursday morning. The man had presumably laid down to sleep in the container for commercial waste, according to the waste disposal company FES. He was tipped into the refuse vehicle with the waste and was caught by the compactor. According to a police spokesperson, he was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His identity was initially unknown.

The machine was stopped immediately, the fire department rescued the man and the rescue operation took two hours. "Extensive dismantling of the vehicle" was necessary, as the fire department announced on the internet platform X (formerly Twitter).

"We are all shocked and saddened," said FES Managing Director Dirk Remmert. "We hope that the man survives and are keeping in close contact with the fire department and police." The members of the FES team who emptied the container are in shock and are receiving pastoral care.
