Homeless man dead after attack: 15-year-old in custody
A 57-year-old homeless man has died following a robbery in Darmstadt. The man succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Thursday evening, police and the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday. A 15-year-old suspect was remanded in custody after the crime on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.
According to the statement, he and his 18-year-old brother attacked the 57-year-old in a bus shelter on Wednesday night and stole his wallet. Afterwards, at least the 15-year-old is said to have seriously injured the homeless man with numerous punches and kicks.
The 18-year-old was released after the attack. According to the statement, it could not be proven with the necessary certainty that he was involved in the fatal attack. The police and public prosecutor's office are investigating the background and involvement in the crime. The two youths initially made no statements to the investigators, it was reported.
The incident of robbery and attempted murder took place in Darmstadt, which is located in South Hessia. The attack on the 57-year-old homeless man led to his death in the hospital.
