- Home Secretary welcomes searches at last generation
Hessen's Interior Minister, Roman Poseck (CDU), has welcomed the raids on members of the climate group 'Last Generation'. "The blockades at Frankfurt Airport two weeks ago were nothing but serious crimes," he said in Wiesbaden. "It's right that the rule of law reacts to this promptly and consistently."
There should be no compromises here. "The members of 'Last Generation' who carry out such actions are serious criminals," Poseck confirmed. "We must not allow such methods to become acceptable."
After the disruption at Frankfurt Airport two weeks ago, apartments of climate group members were searched and DNA samples taken on the initiative of the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office. Due to suspicion of blackmail, property damage, and trespassing, apartments of eight suspects in Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt were affected, the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office said. These eight people, aged 20 to 44, are said to have gained access to the apron at 4:45 am on July 25th.
Minister: Action was a disservice to climate protection
Thousands of people were effectively held hostage, along with enormous economic damage and significant risks to air traffic, Poseck explained. "The motive of climate protection should not play a role in evaluating the actions." 'Last Generation' is doing a disservice to climate protection with such actions, as it turns people against both itself and the issue.
The CDU, represented by Hessen's Interior Minister Roman Poseck, has been critical of the actions taken by 'Last Generation'. Poseck stated that the members of 'Last Generation' who engaged in the blockades at Frankfurt Airport are serious criminals.
