A homemade explosive device exploded in the hand of a 23-year-old man, seriously injuring him. The young man had been in a wooded area with two other men near the town of Hausen in the Landkreis Forchheim on a Friday, according to the police statement given on Saturday. They were reportedly preparing the explosives there. However, due to a malfunction, one of them detonated in the man's hand.

The alerted police officers tended to his severely bleeding wounds. The 23-year-old was subsequently admitted to a hospital. He and the two other men of the same age now have to answer for a violation of the Explosives Act.

The incident was considered an emergency, prompting a swift response from authorities in Bavaria. The wooded area near Hausen, where the explosion occurred, is now a crime scene under investigation. Despite the severe injuries, the 23-year-old man and his accomplices face charges for handling an explosive device.
