Bundesliga 2 - Holstein Kiel extends with Timon Weiner and Lewis Holtby
Second-division soccer club Holstein Kiel has extended the contracts with goalkeeper Timon Weiner and midfielder Lewis Holtby. The club made the announcement on Saturday ahead of the home match against Hannover 96. Weiner signed a new contract until June 30, 2027, while Holtby will remain at the Förde until June 30, 2025.
Holstein's sporting director Uwe Stöver was delighted with both contract extensions. "He leads the way with an impeccable attitude and takes responsibility on and off the pitch," said Stöver about the 33-year-old Holtby, who joined from English second division side Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2021.
Goalkeeper Weiner, who has been the regular goalkeeper in coach Marcell Rapp's team since the fourth matchday of the current series, trained at Schalke 04 and joined Kiel in 2018. The 24-year-old has "developed into a reliable back-up, especially this season", praised Stöver.
