2nd league - Holstein in a promotion place after victory against Wiesbaden

Holstein Kiel have continued their upward trend in the 2nd Bundesliga and have climbed into a direct promotion place with their third win in a row. The North Germans came away with a 3:2 (2:0) win against the disappointing SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday. Steven Skrzybski's penalty (19th) and Fiete Arp's third goal of the season (37th) gave Kiel a clear lead at the break. Finn Porath (59) increased the lead in the second half in front of 10,754 spectators. Things got tense again in the closing stages when Ivan Prtajin (81/90+3) struck twice for SV Wehen to reduce the deficit.

With the win, Holstein moved past Hamburger SV (28) into second place in the table with 29 points and are now first in pursuit of FC St. Pauli (31). The two Hamburg clubs had drawn 2-2 on Friday evening. Despite their second away defeat, newly promoted Wehen Wiesbaden remain in a secure mid-table position.

Kiel dominated the game from the start. The visitors from Hesse achieved virtually nothing and were overstretched in defense. After going 2-0 down, coach Markus Kauczinski ran out of patience. He made a double substitution before the break. His team's play did not improve. Kiel continued to dominate after the break and could have extended their lead. Only in the final phase did they let up and made it exciting once again.
