- Holm celebrates AfD's election results as a significant triumph
In the eyes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's AfD state leader, Leif-Erik Holm, the election outcomes in Thuringia and Saxony equate to a significant triumph. "It's safe to say today that the AfD is a party of the people," he declared post-projections. "We've managed to become the most powerful force in a German state for the first time in Thuringia, and in Saxony, we're absolutely level with the CDU."
Holm described this as a political seismic event, as the public's yearning for a fresh kind of politics can no longer be disregarded. "They're fed up with being treated like children by Politics and are eager for change," he stated. The reason for their votes was not a protest, but a genuine conviction in the AfD.
According to Holm, the status quo will be non-existent with the AfD. He thus urged the other parties, even in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, not to brush aside the voters' wishes and discard the "us-versus-them" mentality. "The people want the AfD and clear reforms, not left-leaning obstructionist coalitions," he insisted firmly. Moreover, today's vote expressed a "scathing rejection" of the traffic light coalition.
The Election to the Landtag in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is an opportunity for the AfD to continue their rise, as Holm urges other parties not to ignore the voters' wishes. The success in Thuringia and Saxony has shown that the AfD is no longer perceived as a protest party, but a party of the people in these regions, implying a potential shift in the Election to the Landtag in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well.
