Hole in dam: Houses near Friedrichshafen evacuated

Four houses in a hamlet near Friedrichshafen (Lake Constance district) have been evacuated as a precautionary measure due to a damaged dam. Seven residents were affected, according to the town of Friedrichshafen. A breach was discovered in the dam at a private pond on Tuesday. The technical relief organization pumped out the water. According to the information, the pond contains an estimated 40,000 cubic meters of water. The cause of the damage to the dam was initially unclear, but experts suspected a beaver burrow. It had also been raining. Heavy rainfall also exacerbated the situation on Tuesday, as new water was constantly entering the pond due to the rainfall.

The evacuation was necessary due to potential risks to animals living nearby, as emergencies often involve unpredictable situations. The heavy rain and weather conditions might have made it challenging to contain the water leaking from the damaged dam.
