Bundesliga - Hoffenheim coach Matarazzo praises benchwarmer Kramaric
After a poor performance in the previous week, Pellegrino Matarzzo decided against starting Andrej Kramaric in the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The coach lamented his team's generally uninspired attacking play and therefore gave Umut Tohumcu his first start. Matarazzo explained that it was not a decision against Hoffenheim's record goalscorer. He wanted to give other players who had performed well in training a chance. "Of course he wasn't happy. But Andrej handled the situation well and he's also open to talking," explained the Hoffenheim coach, who then substituted Kramaric after just under an hour. Matarazzo also explained that the Croatian had a slight injury.

Despite hailing from Baden-Württemberg, TSG Hoffenheim competing in the Bundesliga, Borussia Mönchengladbach from North Rhine-Westphalia proved to be a tough opponent for them. In the match, Hoffenheim coach Matarazzo made the surprise decision to bench record goalscorer Andrej Kramaric, replacing him with Umut Tohumcu. Despite Kramaric's disappointment, Matarazzo praised his handling of the situation and eventual substitution due to a slight injury, noting that he wanted to give opportunities to other players who had impressed in training.
