Soccer Bundesliga - Hoeneß' wish unfulfilled - hot start for Freiburg
Trainer Sebastian Hoeness wished for a home game for the start of VfB Stuttgart in the new Bundesliga season. He would have "liked to start at home", said the coach on the sidelines of the training session of the vice champions. Since his team already faces three league games away from home before the league kick-off against SC Freiburg on 24./25. August, Bayer Leverkusen being the German champion. The first three matches of the Swabians therefore take place abroad, as another DFB-Pokals game against Second League promoter Preußen Münster is scheduled for 27. August.
"We'll take it as it comes," said Hoeness. The Stuttgarter's first home game is against FSV Mainz 05 and is scheduled between 30. August and 1. September, according to the German Football League (DFL) schedule published earlier.
For Freiburg, a week after the Baden-Württemberg derby against VfB Stuttgart, there is already a journey to the German record champion FC Bayern Munich scheduled. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim faces Aufsteiger Holstein Kiel first and then Eintracht Frankfurt. 1. FC Heidenheim travels to FC St. Pauli first and then receives FC Augsburg.
